Short-Necked Clams

Short-Necked clams, enjoyable in some ways like in miso soups, for sake-steaming, and saute, It contains plentiful nutrients such as iron, calcium and vitamin B12. They are known to be effective for prevention of anemia, clearing of calcium shortage, improvement of low blood pressure and dropsy, recovery from asthenopia and also have a diuretic effect. Additionally, they are rich in zinc content, known to ease liver and kidney functions. Therefore, a cup of miso soup with short-necked clams is perfect for over drinking and hangover.
Tips in choosing Short-Necked clams:
In order to choose fresh clams, check on the shells to see any crack and on their necks to see if they are out. If you notice on any smell while preparing,remove it immediately. Also remember that the flat and middle-sized ones rather than big ones have softer flesh and better taste.
